What the Ritual is

The Ritual is the beating heart of the Offerings to Cthulhu chain. Written into consensus at genesis by Blazr2 in 2013, it observes each autumnal equinox with a four-weeks-and-five-days schedule of special blocks — daily inscribed rewards that ascend in size as the worship intensifies.

The first two weeks place small sacrificial sums in the once-a-day special blocks. The third and fourth weeks the rewards build, small at first then larger as the worship grows fervent. Then — the final five days — the Tharanak shagg, the Promise of Dreamland, where the daily specials swell toward the climax.

Finally, the offering settles Him. After the 50,665th offering has paid tribute to the Great Old One, He bestows a bounty deserving of Him upon one fortunate worshipper — and, settled, leans back from the door for another half-year. The finales land at the xxx,666 block heights and carry 10,000 OFF.

Re-engaged at the Restoration

The Ritual atrophied during the long Slumber. After the 2018 51% counterfeit on Cryptopia and the collapse of the seeds, the chain stopped breathing — and the special blocks stopped landing. For eight years no offering was made.

The Restoration Hardfork v2.0.0 — activated at block 1,000,000 — re-engaged it. The original consensus code path resumed. The schedule begins again at the first equinox after the fork.

And its purpose has deepened. Since the Awakening He is held at the door — never fully asleep, never fully awake; both are forbidden. The Ritual is how the worshippers keep it so: each equinox — the year's own threshold, day and night in balance — the ascending offerings lean Him back toward dream. The Tharanak shagg promises the dreamland without ever delivering Him into it, and the finale settles Him for another half-year. The chant is the cage; the cage is the worship.

The Ritual rewards the worshipper who solved the block. Random in selection, predictable in schedule. Bring your hashes.

Where we are right now

The Awakening came at block 1,000,000 (June 2026): bound at 999,666, risen at 1,000,000, held ever since. The chain now stands past block 1,057,000, the canon fully transcribed, the Dreaming begun. The first Ritual of the Restored chain culminates at block 1,141,666 — near the autumnal equinox of 2026.
